In China, although many cities have spared no effort to promote water-based automotive paint, there is still a big gap between China's automotive paint and painting technology compared with developed countries. It is reported that more than 70% of automobile painting production lines in Europe adopt water-based paint construction technology; more than 60% of automobile painting production lines in the United States adopt water-based paint construction technology; more than 70% in Japan adopt water-based paint construction technology; and at present, the proportion of water-based paint used by Chinese automobile manufacturers is not high, accounting for only about 25%. From 2004 to 2010, the output of waterborne paint for automobiles in China increased to 882,000 tons, an increase of 283% in six years. Although the production of automobile waterborne paint has increased substantially, the competitiveness of domestic automobile waterborne paint manufacturers is still weak.
